I just got a call from my dr. and my white blood count dropped from 1.6 to 1.1 in the last week, so now he said to decrease my pegasys shot to 90 m. My first 3 shots were 180m - 4th shot 135m and now my 5th one will be 90. It worries me that I am only taking half of what I started with. If my count goes up, will he increase it again? He said to keep the rib. pills at 800mg a day.

I don't really know the answers here..but I do know there are others who have only been on 800mg to start their tx and have stayed at that level, and were cleared at 4 weeks...So I would not worry about the reduction in meds...You might want to call the Be In Charge people, they may be able to answer more specific questions. There is a point we have to trust our docs which can be hard to do at times..Hang in there, and keep me posted.

P.S. I have always been on 1200mg ribi a day. I have just recently reduced it to 1000mg due to hemoglobin being so low. I will have further blood work tomorrow. Hopefully the numbers will come back up.

What's important here, is that the riba is taken so it weakens your immune system, so that the interferon gets into the open gate way to do it's work.

Don't worry my dear, continue with you 800mgs riba, as long as the interferon gets free way of passage, it will do what it as to do.

They have a drug called Neupogen, that helps your body to produce extra white blood cells. I have been on Neupogen since my first month of treatment. My Doctor said he would never reduce the Interferon dose without trying the Neupogen first.

I know my white count went down to nothing and the doctor put me on Nuepogen (spelling)and I am doing better. Ask your doc about it.

This also happened to me. My Doc put me on the Nupogen and kept my other meds as was.

I hope you feel better soon. I'm glad you're still on the drug and weren't taken off. Make sure you get enough rest and eat a good diet. I wish you all the best!
