Okay this happened to me as well however my Doctor did not reduce my Interferon, he prescribed Neupogen injections, I get blood work every other Monday to monitor me more closely. Lowering the dose for someone with genotype 1 reduces the chances of staying clear. I would ask him about it, some Doctors dont feel like doing the extra work.

Oh I see on your profile your genotype 2a, reducing your Interferon reduces anyone's chances.

okay this is what just happened to me but he lowered my dose to 90 and kept me on 1000 riba.

I was put on neupogen bout 3 months ago for low white counts. I was in the danger zone so to speak and now its normal and sometimes not.

The same thing happened to me. I am a 2B but the dr kept me on 180mg of pegasys but decreased my riba from 800mg to 600mg. It made ALL the difference. I wasn't sure I was going to make it on that much riba....just for "fun" I took 800mg one day on my last week of tx....pretty stupid thing for me to do. It wiped me out for days.

Wow no bloody wonder treatment almost killed me, I was on 185 pegetron/1200mgs ribavirin.

When I see these small dosage, well I'm sure they aren't small, mine was just too high.

I do believe they really wanted me to get this virus out, since my husband had cleared his virus the previous year on the LaRoche combo treatment.

Since the meds are weight based, well my hubby was 202lbs, 6'6" and he was on 185 of interferon, but only 800mgs of riba.

I was 150lbs, and had 185 of pegetron and 1200mgs daily of riba.

Man oh Man what a trip, like I said no wonder treatment almost killed me, sure did kill the dragon though!!!!

My count bottomed out also. I, like many others have replied, was put on neupogen injections (1 per wk) untill I finished treatment. About the last 20 weeks of tx. This brought my count closer to normal.

My white blood cell count went from 6.4 to 2.0 in 12 weeks of treatment.

I am a 1a and take 180 of the peg and 1400(yes 1400!) of the Riba. My doctors have not reduced any of my meds.

Makes me wonder if they should but maybe being on the high doses and feeling a little wiped out is better for the end results! It's all a bit overwelming sometimes so I just try not to think about it...

What is too low of a number for your white blood cells to be at? (before you keel over) Do any of you peoples know? Just incase nurses are not paying attention...hahaha what faith I have in my nurses...hey!

I am not currently on treatment but i just found out i have hep c but i have always had a high white blood cell count i could never figure it out i am now wondering if the hep c is why i have had a high white count for the last 10 years any input would be great thanks

My white blood count was exremely low the whole 48 weeks, this makes you very susteptable to infections and I was in the hospital for phenmonia and at that time was blood was so off I had to have a blood transfusion. So after that I was very careful to stay away from anything or anyone who could make me sick. Basically the low white blood count also means your immune system is not very resiliant. Good Luck.

Yes that was my experience on tx...I used lots of yogurt, berries, zinc to boost my white blood cells and it really helped and didn't have to reduce my riba..oh yes and eat lots of fresh sprouts, ming or alphala...best to you.
