You will have end of treatment (EOT) done to be sure you are still non detectable. Then you wait for 12 weeks for your sustained viral response (SVR 12) and more tests are done to be sure you are still non detectable. If you are you are considered "successfully treated".
Then you have another test 24 weeks after your last treatment day (SVR 24) and that is when they actually use the term "cured".

best - everyone has a different experience re. "feeling better" - me, I didn't "feel better" for a couple months after EOT - and then it was like I hadn't realized how just sorta "off" and not well I had felt for decades because I ... felt GOOD. Had forgotten what that felt like, considering I had the virus for a very very long time. Other say they "felt the virus leave" - that def. didn't happen to me. Others just feel great very fast - not for me either. But now - I know it's gone - fatigue is gone, just a "lighter" feeling - clearer - hard to explain. No set answer for your question on that issue - different for each of us. No way of knowing when you personally will have that energy back. Just be patient - it will happen!

However, other stuff can crop up, so it can be confusing. In my case, I've had a raging headache since about March - a month into tx. Tx ended May 7. It is not as bad as it was, but it's still happening - every day - wakes me up every morning. My glucose has always been high, but on my SVR12 labs, it was 151 (YIKES). I am seeing an internal med doc on the 10th - with glucose reading in hand from my SVR24 labs coming up on Monday. Bet it's still up there = diabetes. I'm having this weird theory that somehow the meds (Soly/Oly) (and this is just in my case) in killing HCV fast - the timing is right since the HA started right when it seems Sovaldi totally wipes out the virus - changed the way my liver processes sugar - me being a sugar addicted all my life. I'd rather have diabetes than HCV, for sure. But - it was confusing - I thought the MEDS caused the HA's - but no, I've been off them for six months.

Thanks guys. Kramer, I didn't realize I still had so many tests to go through still. It was the Doctors words "cured". I guess I celebrated a little early. Cat, thanks for the info. I wonder if my sever chocolate cravings mean anything? I literally can't go a day without it. I've always loved it but not like this. I'm Geno 1 and tx is the same as yours.

Hitting non detect during treatment is awesome. You're on the right path and it all will be behind you soon. These drugs are amazing ..so many happy stories.

My doc says SVR12 is cured - other docs are more cautious, waiting for the SVR24. You are celebrating at the right time, bestie... this isn't like the old stuff that would show UD at one point during tx then sometime go right back to showing a VL even during tx. From all I've seen in trials, here on this forum, other forums, just a lot of reading, when Sovaldi nukes your HCV and you show UD, it is dead and gone for good. Like Kramer said, hitting non-detectable during tx - with SOVALDI on board - is GOOD - means... the virus has left your liver, never to return. Believe it!

Just hang in there and finish the tx. :)

I have 17 more days of treatment and I was thinking all these same things. I will test at the end of treatment and then not again until SVR24 so it's been a long time waiting to see if treatment even worked and another long 6 months making sure it's gone for good.

I can't wait to get back to normal (whatever that might be) lol as I've also had HepC since my late teens and don't know any different. I keep telling my husband that under all this I might be some ball of energy, supermom type person !

I can't express how wonderful it is to read all of the posts here. So much hope for us now. I've got another week or more of waiting for preauthorization. This virus is ravaging my body and I look forward to the day I reach a 'new normal'.

So many years we have suffered in silence from this stigmatized disease. I can only wish that this new drug gives us the global awareness we finally deserve.
