The colitis and pneumonia were side effects from all the meds, he told TheWrap. He died from complications of ulcer and colitis after being treated with drugs for his rheumatoid arthritis which he had for over 15 years.
I do not participate here anymore, but I had a post about this subject a couple of months back. After the treatment of the infamous TRIPLE I got Arthritis. I finished in 2012 Jan and the meds which ever triggered the damn thing . Completely accidentally I discovered DHEA what is a male hormone (testosterone) , what I was taking for some other thing..I went on to Mayo Clinic site just to see the dosing.

For the ladies..."To improve bone density, doses of 50-200 milligrams of DHEA have been taken by mouth daily for up to two years."
I was taking 100mg since May. It was so bad at the time I couldn't twist off a cap from the Coke bottle. This day I still have a small swelling but my hands are completely functioning. My knee pain (both knee's) are 100% gone. Shoulder pain is gone. My left shoulder was killing me for like 2 years.
The DHEA was costing me 29.95 for 3 months. (GNC) Glenn Frey got ulcer from the meds what the doctors happily prescribed for him. Everyone was making the money. Wonder if he ever tried DHEA, as most of us never heard such of name.
Now I stopped taking it. If things get bad again I will go with the 50mg as maintenance rather this ulcer causing pills.
Good luck to you all, educate yourselves before taking any doctor prescribed medication. You all know the stories about kick backs to them from the Pharma's.

I got a bad Ulcer that they believe also invaded my intestines (which I think would be "ulcerative colitis" - not sure)
Anyway for me, I was taking Advil or ibuprofen a lot - I mean a real lot as the pain was so bad. I figured it was better than taking prescribed drugs - (oh was I wrong)
The pain was unbelievable and I was sick for months.
I still have to be very careful what I eat and I don't know what to take for the pain. They said Tylenol, but I hate Tylenol and I don't want all this prescribed controlled substances.
Moving to a warmer climate would help me immensely. That would be very costly. It is freezing where I am, just freezing cold!!
Unfortunately, I switched to Celebrex when I was taking Harvoni and that's what did the damage. Good thing is, I got off the Celebrex and am doing ok - got cortisone shots instead.
The drug cost $1950 in Canada, $1,102 in the UK, $1,498 Spain, $1498 in the Netherlands...
I took DHEA, too, and had good results, but I was also taking Glucosamine/Chondroitin at same time, so hard to say if DHEA works alone for me. I've stopped all supplements (I was up to almost $78 per month on average & couldn't afford to keep it up) about 3 months after treatment was done.
Also having had RA for about 40 years, I neve heard of DHEA as a treatment. The first line current treatment are the biologics: Humira, Enbrel or Orencia. They work well of most people and miraculously have little side effects. I am in total remission on Oremcia. In addition to subsiding all symptoms, this meds more importantly stop the progression of the disease to prevent permanent crippling.
