I have failed treatment 2 times. I did 48 wks of std-of-care in 2009 & I've been waiting for the new interferon-free meds to be approved since last yr following my unsuccessful 9 wks of triple therapy with Incivek. I am encouraged by the approval this mo. of Gilead's treatment drug Sofusbuvir but I understand that the combo with Ledipasvir will not be submitted for FDA approval until the first quarter of 2014 with final approval possibly by the end of 2014. My doctor was unable to perform a liver biopsy on me so we only know the condition of my liver from CT scans, ultrasounds & blood work. I am told that I do not have cirrhosis. All of my Liver function tests are within normal range except my ALT/AST is elevated (ALT 57/AST 75). I am a 57 yr. old female who was diagnosed with the hard-to-treat Geno 1A in 1999. I believe I contracted the virus from a contaminated blood transfusion in 1983 but don't know for certain. I am anxious & just want to get rid of this horrible virus. It is personally difficult for me emotionally because my husband of 34-yrs died from complications related to HCV in 2008 & I know first-hand what this virus can do. I think I must be interferon resistant because I was vigilant about compliance during both treatments but I was never under. The new meds seem to be on fast track for FDA approval with Ledipasvir so I'd like to know what you think about waiting to treat. My Dr. told me to follow-up with him next mo. so he could start treatment again with Sofusbuvir but currently that would also mean with interferon & ribavirin. I think the winning combo is Sofusbuvir/Ledipasvir/Riba...Am I correct & should I consider waiting another yr since I don't have cirrhosis? Thanks in advance for your advice.
