I would HOPE that they just haven't updated that but that they are using newer treatments. Guess you'll have to make an appt and discuss it with a doctor there. Good luck!

With 2 failed treatments you should be a candidate for sovaldi and olysio depending on your genotype. Do you know what that is?

Also, do your know your stage of fibrosis? If it's low and they do not allow S & O - as it is still "off-label" there are other txs coming down the pike in less than 6 mos that you can likely wait for, such as Sovaldi and ledipisvar (sp?). Also, S&O is in the process of being an APPROVED tx, not off-label so that will pen doors to places like the VA, hopefully.

I'm genotype1 for sure A I think. My liver is at stage 4 cirrissis. I was just hoping they had give up ribavarin. Last time the rash and itching were hell. Also I drive truck so I was hoping to find out what they were using to see if I should work like crazy before treatment starts in case I can't while on it

yup , va hooked me up . und in 4 weeks . 6 wks tx to go . no sides except low hemoglobin. all other liver numbers normal ..
i was expedited because im interferon ineligible.. they called me in without warning . passing drug screen is a must, these meds are expensive and in great demand.

Side note:
Try not to judge sides previously experienced in a different combination. when same meds are in a different mix, they act differently

yea, triss . riba isnt a problem on these oral meds. nurse told me a while back that riba rage didnt happen. the interferon caused all the mental sides.. i agree. im perfectly calm . fortunately i have ambien to put my lights out at night. riba CAN cause a little insomnia..

not to be a downer, but i was on riba with all oral meds on clinical trial and i had: anemia, shortness of breath, insomnia, nausea and vomiting, extreme sun sensitivity. but a dose reduction relieved all sides. Sovaldi and olysio are very powerful, so dose reduction is able to be done without risking success.

remember too that tx today is only for 12 weeks.

Ribavirin has been a problem for me with both itching and rash and skin tingling, plus mood swings, forgetfulness, insomnia, dry mouth and eyes and skin, quick to anger, nausea, anxiety, headaches, fatigue, joint pain, coughing and shortness of breath. Doc did not reduce dose, as week 4 blood counts looked Ok. I guess he figured I can power through it in 12 weeks. :-/

My buddy failed the old ifn/riba before ifn was peg. His va doc told him he will get solvadi and ledispavir as soon as it is approved. Target date is oct 2014.

im on week 6 and really no sides yet. i wear out in about 4 hrs of work but i do pretty extreme work. after infergen daily i could have two limbs ripped off and not complain.. nurses said to be honest with them. right. ya know im going to lie about ( downplay ) the sides so why ask ?
