I received a response from the Nurse at Toronto Western Liver Centre about the ongoing question as to whether one should change razors and toothbrushes during treatment to avoid reinfection.
She is the Nurse in charge of administration of all HCV trials and patient treatments and knows her stuff.
This was her response:

Q. I have a question that may seem silly but perhaps not.
There is discussion in my support group about the potential to re-infect oneself while on treatment by not changing toothbrushes and razors on a regular basis.
I have never been given this advice as part of treatment protocol and have read that one can be re-infected with other genotypes, but not with ones own virus.
Is there a definitive answer to this?

I'm very happy to hear that you are not experiencing many side effects!
To answer your question about re-infection with your own razor/toothbrush - it is possible in theory, but I would consider that to be very, very rare. I have not seen or heard of a case to date. Since in theory it could happen, feel free to change your toothbrush and razor after W4 PCR result.
