Today's Doctor Appointment

I met with my new doctor that is a liver specialist today. They are sending in the request for the new meds this week. I need a blood test and a MRI of the liver. I also will take a class regarding the new meds. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that insurance will cover the new meds without much of a hassle. I have cirrhosis so that impacts me not being able to take interferon. I have Hep 1a. I'm so glad I went to the specialist. The GI I was going to wanted to wait 6 months for some reason and really had an awful bedside manner. The specialist and staff are warm and caring. Just what I needed right now. I'll keep you all posted....

Yipeee! You like your new dr & he may be more up to date & experienced with hcv treatment modalities. He may have more clout in getting the new meds for you. This has uplifted your spirits.

the reason I say (above) - my dr submitted a request to insurance for a surgery approval for me. It was denied twice. When I saw the specialist, it was approved upon first request. FYI

So glad you posted this. I was wondering how you were doing & I'm happy you won't have to wait an additional 6 mo. Hope ins. gives you a quick approval & also pleased you are happy with new doc! He & his staff sound like they are caring & desire a successful tx for you. They will be super important in the upcoming months & we'll be here as well to cheer you on & answer any other questions you may have.

Thanks. I'm hoping a specialist has more clout too. I had to remind the other GI I had about the new medications! He was suggesting interferon whereas the specialist said with cirrhosis I wouldn't be able to do interferon. The doctor did make me feel good saying it was a partnership and that they were there for me :)
