Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Once you have the information from today's visit, you will be able to decide what's best for you. Just remember you're in a position of power. If you can wait, newer drugs will be out soon. If not, well there are currently available drugs to treat. The HCV community hasn't had these kinds of options ever.
Kramer had great advice. I wrote down a whole bunch of questions for my first few visits because I didn't want to get home and realize I forgot to ask him something.
Good luck.

Well today the doctor confirmed my ultrasound results: he stated that my liver is in really good shape and no signs of inflammation confirmed by physical exam.
He is sending me for a biopsy to confirm is opinion.
As he stated to me after much back am forth conversation: there is a small percentile of Hep C type 1 patients that can have the virus active in their system for decades and never have any damage. He feels I am within this percentile group. It is for this reason that he is suggesting that I wait on Tx for the new drugs. While I was prepared for the worse this was music to my ears. He went on to say that this percentile group has a much higher success rate in treatment. He feels very confident that, in his words: "I will be cured". I was not anticipating the C word.
He was pleased with my proactive stance having quit smoking, kicked sodas to the curb and am eating far healthier than the average personnel.
So we were so happy with the news we went to Sam's Club and bought more fruits. Lol.
