I seem to remember that someone posted that your genotype was influenced by whether an ancestor had survived a bad flu??? Or did I imagine that while I was on treatment?

Being a TT I was just curious.

I was originally told that IL28b gene wouldn't adversely affect SVR rate of triple treatment. Found out that was incorrect. I think that I actually found the triple tx response rates based upon IL28b and whether or not cirrhotic. I had to look very hard for them. Now I can't remember where I found them.

what i wonder is does the IL28b have any bearing on the non interferon meds?

Treatment in general or just interferon?

I have no scientific proof, but the PA told me that being a CC means that I am more likely to respond to all meds., not just interferon.

i am TT, that is why i am so concerned, this is the first time i heard it can sway the non interferon med

TT means no one in your blood line had a virus and survived it they simply did not built up the immunity because they never came in contact in the first place

I have only seen IL28 referred to when talking about the success rates of Interferon. I don't believe it has any bearing on new meds as their pharmocokinetic method of attacking the virus is different.
If you find anything to the contrary please post your findings.

So what was the answer to does this gene affect non-interferon-based treatments? I heard no, but if the CC's are more likely to spontaneously clear, which I think I read somewhere, then it would make sense that if holds true for all treatments.

BTW, my husband thought the whole gene thing was a joke -- how could my ancestors have been on vacation during flu season? People couldn't exactly hop a plane out of town in those days. And if you were in the village, you were exposed. So I don't really get it, unless people from certain parts of the world didn't get the exposure. Is this an ethnic thing? Those of you who are CC, where are your ancestors from?
