Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
OK so today I took my 5th shot, all my riba and enough bo to kill a hippo. In this drugged state I imagined what was going on in my veins. Here's the story (the movie will be out soon):
The Good Times are All Gone.
Life used to be good for Frankie and Johnny. They were HCV viral replicas. They could freely roam my veins and arteries and hang out with their friends (and they had a LOT of friends!). Every once in awhile they would find a protease enzyme, invade a healthy liver cell, screw up the nucleus and out popped 5,000 little bundles of joy. How cool. But then strange things started to happen.
Frankie, you remember how we would hardly ever see one of those anti-virus t-cell cops?
Youre right. Now theyre on every corner. In every blood vessel. And they seem to be bigger and meaner than ever.
No kidding! I was hanging out at liver north yesterday and 100,000 of my buds got rounded up. I barely got away!
You dont suppose hes taking Interferon and Riba again, do you?
Its looking that way!
Johnny, Im scared! What are we gonna do?
Easy. Lets grab a protease enzyme, invade a cell and sit it out.
Johnny, Ive havent seen a protease in days. Where are they all?
Oh, no! You dont suppose hes taking boceprevir too? Cleaned out all the enzymes? Cant replicate?
Frankie! Look out! Cops! Run. Run.
After a brief pursuit Johnny is pulled over by the biggest, meanest t-cell of them all.
Get in the cruiser you little shit, he says.
Whoa, officer, theres no need to be insulting.
Thats not an insult, kid. Thats a fact. In about 5 minutes youre gonna be part of a light, grey piece of shit headed for the septic system.
In the distance Frankie was being hustled into another cruiser. There was only time for a brief wave. Five minutes later there was a flushing sound. The good times were indeed all gone.
