This high cost and potent drug is not at the common pharmacy...and your script may not get you there but some have suceeded with one from DR...times are changing how all of it is handled and God is in the middle of it all if you are a believer..so anyway..NO...
if you have a ins. packet or book..it should say who your specialty pharmacy is and where it is located..that is your homework for today...it is up to you...don't believe the Dr they don't know either..this is all so new...JUST GET THE DRUG...call your ins. co if you cannot find SECIALTY PHARMACY...I have UHC , I can't remenber mine ahhh

YOU WILL NEED: and learn to read labs
BIOPSY report or fibroscan (fibrosure) that tells condition of liver...it is documented on lab report as stage 0-4
ULTRASOUND...tells of any tumors or irregularities of liver
LIVER PANEL bloodwork..AST/ALT, platlets , RBC WBC etc
VIRAL LOAD and genotype...VL__? geno 1a or 1b ?
some ins require a urine test to see if you are still using any street drugs or alcohol ...not many do but ask your ins. when you call what you need to get Pre Authorization to submit...your DR needs to get these labs done ASAP as they can take weeks to come back...go girl

Lisa - it might be a difficult fight to get treatment but don't give up. Try every avenue. In the meantime, you are lucky your liver is still in good shape. Don't drink at all and cut back on sugar - your liver views them as one and the same. There was a group on here called HCV Healthy Living (not sure if it's still running) where you can get info on nutrition and HCV. Best of luck.

Thank you, Dawter! Gosh I did not know that about sugar. I am not much of a sweets person but I do occasionally indulge in cookies. I'll cut it out.

I ended up calling my pharmacy then my insurer. They referred me to their online specialty pharmacy. Now I can have my physician phone or fax my stuff in. I think they are learning about all of this, too.

I went online to mysupportpath.com On the top bar, the last choice is FORMS and Resources, Click on that and the first option is what you need to send them. Print it out and take it to your doctor, or if you can't print, you can call Support Path and order it, they will mail it to you. The doctor does the first page, you do the others. They will ask for insurance information and financial information. You'll need to attach verification.

Then the doctor can fax in the packet. It generally takes about a week or two after that, and you'll get a phone call. They will either approve, disapprove, or ask for more information.

They will contact the Covance Pharmacy, and the pharmacy will contact you in about another 1 or 2 weeks and get your address and Fed Ex the prescription. They will tell you when you need to be home to sign for it. If you call back after a day or two, you can get a tracking number.

You will get one bottle and will need to call them about 10 days before you run out to order your second and third bottles.

For me the approval process was quick and easy. I just followed directions and got my meds. I'm 4 weeks in, 8 weeks to go. I'll be ordering my last bottle in 2 weeks. Good luck, Lisa, and may the Harvoni be with you soon!

I agree with Werty. How did they test your fibrosis level? If it was a Fibroscan, they are not very accurate. I would insist on a biopsy if you really want to get treatment.
