The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Although Sovaldi is approved in Canada, it is rather hard to find right now.
Those Canadians who have access have had to pay out of pocket as neither Govt or private insurance has it listed yet.
I just found out that Sun Life in Canada has approved and I know of one man up here who is starting treatment this weekend.
The DIN in Canada for Sovaldi is #02418355.
The other insurance companies should be listing is soon I hope an potentially the Govt. later this year.

Thank you packed. It looks like a few more months here for me. I can't do IFN again so will have to wait for all oral. FDA has Gilead's "combo pill" now so probably the Fall for Canadian access.
S'okay though. I'll make it! :)

Hi! Would you be doing Sovaldi with Olysio? Or waiting for Sovaldi/Led?

And as I've said before, "YOU WERE RIGHT. 2014 is our year." I start 12 weeks of Sovaldi/Oly on MONDAY!

Hello CM. Well at the moment there are no choices in Canada so I'll be happy when the first one shows up. There seem to be a few good treatments coming soon!

sound s good ...dont know what to do now .I was going on a trial of solvaldi and riba... but it cancelled. It is insured by trillium for Geno 1's only or privately but I have heard from my hep doc that the focus is all on geno 3's as they have found out it is way more like 1's than 2 it is sneaky and comes back .Now they want me to start on pegasys Riba/inter ...maybe I should wait a bit longer

Hello jan. I have not heard that ODB (Trillium) is covering any HCV drugs at the moment. I like you am a compensating cirrhotic but failed IFN treatment so it is not an option for me. I can't comment on what you should do, only you and your Dr. can do that.
Private insurance will most likely start to cover the drugs before the govt. (Trillium)
I am confident that I will continue to compensate and be able to start the new oral drugs when they finally arrive here in Canada; possibly late Summer/Fall of 2014. I wish you all the best!

I'm with Manulife and so far nothing..only Sun Life. I was told it would be end of March anyway but let me know how you make out!
