Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
I will speak strictly of type 1, since that is what I am and what I understand the most.
Today I saw my doctor, 13 months after my original dx. We discussed treatment and I had the opportunity to browse thru his Sovaldi Manual at my leisure. It had a table with recommended treatment plans for Type 1, 2, and 3. So I zeroed in on type 1.
The only option/recommendation it showed was Sovaldi/Inf/Riba combo for 12 weeks.
Now I know over the course of the past six months or so we have discussed on here a lot about different combos, some off label some not.
So based on this Sovaldi manual I have to assume that the above listed combo is the On Label combo and anything else would be considered off Label.
One thing I looked at in my mind was even though this combo would be using the dreaded Inf., it would only be for 12 weeks vs the old 48 week. Plus he discussed a 95% success rate.
So my question is anyone else on here using this combo or finished and how did you do and what did you experience.

i personally would not take INF. Actually I can't/ But I wouldn't even if i could. Not now when so many non-inf are coming on board within months. I MIGHT do Riba again, if the dose was kept under 1000mgs.
** Physicians must prescribe this regimen off label because the combination of Solvaldi, Olysio and ribavirin has not been approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). Research of this drug regimen among those with genotype 1 has been promising
*** Preliminary data suggest this regimen may be less effective than the recommended regimen, particularly among those with cirrhosis
So the off label is less effective
For Genotype 1 that's the current recommended tx as far as I know. As more drugs come on board and get FDA approval I'm sure there will be better options. If I could afford to wait 6 months or a year, that is what I would do...otherwise, 12 weeks is a piece of cake compared to 48 weeks.
