Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Wow, just looking through some of the posts. A lot of you are on your last shots, or it's coming up real soon. Just want to say congrats to all whether you are undie or not. It's along long ride and I am so proud of all who even attempted tx. Massive big hugs to you, wish I could be there is person to give you all a big hug.
Just thought I would let you all know I had my scope done this morning and everything is fine. No bleeds!! Finally something positive. I had a chance to talk to my doc about upcoming treatment ( for those of you that don't know me I was on tx and taken off at 30 weeks due to the virus coming back bummer) I was asking him about the new treatment that I have seen so many of your write about. I believe in the U.S. you are in stage 3? Well my dr. said we won't have it here for at least 2yrs. But I will be at the top of list to get on it. I guess I will just have to play the waiting game. By the way I had a couple of drinks through the Christmas season and totally hated it. What a shock that was to me considering how much I liked my wine before going on treatment. It was a good feeling filling out the forms this morning and when they asked how much alcohol I drink I could honestly say none. Now if only I could get my husband to stop all would be great. Mind you I have to say he doesn't drink half as much as he used to and hardly at all around me. So there we go that is my news for the New Year. I hope we all have a wonderful, successful year and to all the newbies out there, good luck and remember this to shall pass!!!!

Happy about your "no varicies" results. Same here and it was welcome news.
Re Sofosbuvir. I suspect it will be here within the year. If it is approved south of the border, Canada will follow quickly,, just like it did with Telaprevir and Boceprevir.
I will be seeing my Dr. at Toronto Western in a few weeks and his Liver Centre team is at the forefront, trials, etc.
It just would not make sense to make us Canadians at our 11th hour to risk liver failure.

I remember my HCV Dr. (different one then) telling me it would be three years for it and that was in spring 2010. well is showed up here less than a year later so ...keep your chin up like me!

I'm still waiting for my 6 month VL to see if it really worked..... must say I'm a bit nervous about it since I was stopped 4 weeks early, but we'll see.
I too would like to congradulate EVERYONE here who are about to finish! You all are heros and troopers in my eyes. What strong people you are to finish!

Vertex Pharmaceuticals filed a New Drug Application with the FDA in November 2010. The drug received fast track designation in January 2011 and was approved in May 2011.
A New Drug Submission was filed with the Therapeutic Product Directorate of Health Canada and given fast track designation in January 2011. Telaprevir was approved in Canada in August 2011.
Glad to hear your scope went well. I sure hope the new drugs become available soon.
I'm all for adequate testing and safety trials, but it seems like there should be a way to get them to the people most in need.
