You talking Endoscopy Best?
If so it is a peice of cake.
I had visions of having to try to swallow a tube and gagging but it goes very smoothly.
They will lay you on your side, give you a sedative, spray freezing in your throat and while you are in la la land, they put a mouth guard between your teeth to guide the scope (it's tiny).
It's in and out in a flash and you really feel no discomfort.
You'll be fine! Like all things the fear of the unknown is far worse in this case.

I was out cold for mine because I had the other end scoped at the same time. What a party!! Tubes everywhere. didn't feel a thing. I always try to stay awake as long as possible when getting the knock out stuff. I might get a good 5 seconds of it. lol.

If you went through treatment I think you will do ok.Wishing you a painless procedure.

Hey bestshot, If your faith is shattered I will pickup your slack! Will pray for you my friend and do some special ones for you on friday! I also have had the endoscopy and like kramer said its a peice of cake! You will do fine, your tough!

Not sure what it is called. brain fog still. all I know is I will be put out for it and they are checking for bleeding in the ok spell this asophagus. if they find any they put a band on them to tie them off. end of story I guess. I just hate being put out but hate even more not being. Donald I missed you messaging me. put the laptop down and see what happens. lol. it just seems to me that I have fallen into this deep deep depression and can't seem to fight it. I am still on antidepressants but don't think its working very well. obviously. think I might be fighting it on the inside. I am a real stubborn bitch lol

Yes that would be an endoscopy for varicies (like varicose veins) in the oesophagus.
Trust me you do want to know if you have those and have them taken care of right away.
Those can rupture and it's a quick bleed, lots of trouble. Something that can be taken care of easily and prevent one from going through such a nightmare. Be glad you are having it done.

Best - you're sleeping now - but I just saw this.

I just had it done last Friday. Easiest procedure I've ever had! I mean, not even a prep except no food and water. (Beats a colo) Of course I was OUT, but it was a sweet sleep with Propofol - no after effects - wide awake and alert in the procedure room as soon as they stopped the P. I was ready to leave the hospital a couple hours after it was over... feelin' good.

It is VERY important to have this done when you have cirrhosis! Thankfully, I have no varices - but If I did, I'd sure want them banded. Bad news if you have them and they break open (hemorrhage).

Kramer - I could not figure out why they had me roll over onto my left side. I asked the doctor if he thought this was a colonoscopy (he IS a gastro). HA. He said something about the "machine" in the box on my left - didn't have my glasses on, couldn't figure out what the heck was going to happen. (Then I was out) So NOW I know - you've explained it. Sort of. What is the "machine" ??? Do they scope you when you're lying on your side? I'd think you'd need to be on your back. Maybe I can find this on youtube.

I think it has to do with entering your oesophagus and not your wind pipe. It's positional.

Good luck with this--- it was a nothing for me--- the thing that worried me most (aside from having varcies, which i didnt), was whether i would be able to eat my fat and incivik right after-- already 2 hrs off schedule--- without being sick from the meds--- i did fine doing it on tx, so not on tx should be even better for you.

I have had a small varices for several years, but they just watch it. It hasn't needed banding yet. It's an easy procedure. Much better than a colonoscopy.
But that is one reason that you should avoid NSAIDs (aspirin, advil, aleve, etc...) if you have cirrhosis.
