Both Simeprevir and Sofosbuvir have to be approved through the provincial formularies. It takes a while. The drugs are available but how to pay??$$??
I will contact my Pharmacist to see if either of the drugs are on the Manulife Benefits

A 12-week treatment regimen of simeprevir and sofosbuvir led to cure rates of 93% in people who previously did not respond to treatment (prior null responders) with mild to moderate liver damage, reported researchers at the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases (AASLD) in Washington, DC. Participants received simeprevir and sofosbuvir once daily or as triple therapy with ribavirin twice daily. Participants received treatment for either 12 or 24 weeks. All treatment arms had high cure rates (79% - 96%). Common side effects were fatigue, headache, nausea and insomnia.

The sides were from the Riba - not from the simeprevir (Olysio) or sofosbuvir (Sovaldi). I may be doing this tx if my insurance will pay for it off-label, which I have every reason to believe they will, esp. with my labs done three weeks ago that I picked up yesterday. They weren't THAT bad but I obviously am very much needing to treat. My platelets were 144,000 - a bit better than last time. I DO NOT want the dang Riba though. I honestly would want to wait for Sovaldi/Ledipasvir before I'd do any Riba.

I read ImK's link and the patients with Riba responded no better than the patients who took Riba with the two drugs. Very interesting.

What I found out about state ins (not sure about the national health care yet) is that they don't cover it as of yet, though some of the bigger ins companies do/will.

You could potentially get it through state ins IF your doc makes a request for it and feels that you need it instead of the current, already-covered meds (i.e. SOC).

My guess is it is the same deal with SIME. I can understand that these are new drugs, so of course they dont want to pay for them and would rather you go through the harder-for-you meds cause they are cheaper.

Just spoke to Blue Cross Blue Sheild regarding the coverage of Sovaldi(sofosbuvir) to which they said they would cover it after my deductible.
