Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. my GI told me all bets were if i were to start drinking again. hepc still lurks somewhere in my system and i want it to stay there.
if there was ever a reason to stop drinking, this is it.
Well at one point they all contracted hep c in their life, yes the 3 of them, and to this day they still drink alcohol, like not everyday but if the occasion arises they do, except for my younger brother who was and still is a full blown alcoholic, I'm told that he does drink once or twice a year, but that's a lot better than all the previous years when he drank from morning to night.
My point is, they saw me sick as a dog while on treatment, and they all have hep c since a much longer time than I, and they still drink if they have a chance.
Some people never learn, or aren't scared enough.
Just to show you how alcohol is the worst enemie of the hep c virus here a little story regarding the difference between my hubby and I.
In 87 one July sunny day, my hubby did IV drugs with his friend, good friend eh! and they shared the same spoon to mix their stuff, so we were positive he got the disease as such.
IN 87.
As for myself, in 95 I had hep A which can be contracted from dirty water, or raw fish and didn't have hep c yet.
In 2000, when my hubby went for a routine check up for extreme fatigue he was tested for hep c and was positive.
So of course our sweet doctor wanted to test both our daughter and I, when the results came back our daughter was negative thank God, but I was positive.
After the initial shock, we started the testings for Richard thinking he had it for decades so we will treat him first.
His biopsy revealed no damage whatsoever.
Grade 0 stage 0.
When it came me getting the biopsy, after Richard had completed his year long treatment, my biopsy revealed fibrosis grade 2 stage 2.
So go figure...
The only difference between Richard and I, he rather drugs than booze, my drug of choice was alcohol.
So my point is, in a short amount of time, I develop fibrosis to the liver, due to alcohol.
So no alcohol is the key to prevent damage to the liver.
In 2000 we were both diagnosed, and have been cured since years now, and we never returned to drinking alcohol.
Better safe than sorry.
Just thought I'd share this to show how alcohol is poisson with hep c.
Love & Respect,
Mckenzie
one day at the time.
Alcohol has created misery for many. We avoid it. We did drink some wine on occasion, just a glass, but since the Tx, no.
