Thx for posting...I had not heard that yet and I'm quite shocked. I saw him in Tahoe years ago.....powerful entertainer. His music brings back so many memories from fun times in the 70s.

I was sad when I saw he died.. I always liked him..
John belushi did a great imitation of him.. And Joe came out and joined him on Saturday night live.. It was great.

I was coming home today from town and all the radio stations I listen to were playing Joe Cocker tunes - I thought that was strange - then I came into the house and saw the terrible news.

I am very very sad about this. Saw him 4th of July weekend 1969 at the First Atlanta Pop Festival - he played the last set - starting at 2 a.m. and ending at sunrise. No one (here in the U.S. anyway) had heard of him before that magical night. He blew our already way blown minds. That was about six weeks before Woodstock where the whole world DID come to know him and how amazing he was.

Saw him twice more - 90 and 91 - in St. Louis at a small venue where he brought the whole house down. I've seen many performances/concerts, but I've always said that Joe Cocker (and his band - he had a GREAT band and back-up singers in STL) was the best of the best - #1 in my book. The power and raw emotion he conveyed, how he sang his entire heart and soul out every second of each performance - no one can compare. I just read that he has been battling lung cancer for a while, yet - his last concert was this past June - so six months ago he was still touring (and no doubt suffering).

He was known for incredible generosity too.

This one hit me hard, real hard.

RIP Joe, you were an inspiration to me. I loved the way you poured your heart and soul into every song.

I couldn't believe it either Cat. I seen him quite a few times in NYC 7 New Jersey back in the day and like you said, Joe and his group put on one heck of a show.

He will be missed and I'll never forget him because when I was whole lot younger back then i tried to emulate him when I was singing for a band that was basically most of my friends I grew up with and they always used to tell me that you act like Joe Cocker sometimes when your singing. I tried to use that passion when i sang but there wasn't anyone who could compare to Joe.

The only silver lining is that his suffering is finally over and he can now rest in peace. RIP Joe Cocker.

I can't say I've really listened to him much in the past few decades but I liked his gravelly voice.
