Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
About 2.5 years ago, my mother had a heart attack (two 80% blocked and two more at 100% - 4 stents). After months of telling the docs that there was a 'fireworks' pain in her chest, but no real action, and 35 years of smoking, it happened. Thank God she was with her boyfriend and he immediately phoned for help, then she was flown to a bigger hospital where she stayed a week.
She has had her occasional angina attacks and she did complain to her heart doc and staff, and had stress tests and imaging done, but they must have thought it was just a few minor blocks and her nitro DOES work, so clearly not another HA. She must have complained enough cause this time she got to go to the hospital and have them go in and search today.
They found 2 more that were 80% and placed additional stents to extend the older ones. I have talked to her already and she should be back by tomorrow and be fully recovered in a week or more.
I listed this as OT, but she does have Hep C and genetic Hemochromatosis, which may or may not have played a role (in addition to the decades of smoking). In a few months she will be 55, and I want her around so that we can go through tx together, or at the least, have her treat first and get rid of another bad thing in her life.

What she said specifically was that she would NOT do tx if: A. it has INF in it (ever) and, B. only after she has moved in with her boyfriend cause she wants him to be able to be right there in case the tx gives her a hard time. Understandable. I have it too, not too mention a small child, a cat, and college work to take care of, so I can't help her that much.
I'm thinking that the HH iron overload has caused some of it, considering it settles in major organs when the body doesn't need anymore. We shall see. Thanks for the prayers, WG! *hugs*
It was close (both times apparently). She was the kind of person that said she would never give up smoking cause it was "all she had left" - seeing how HCV made her give up drinking (she was not an alcoholic by any means to begin with), and she had her tubes tied cause her husband at that time said he didn't want anymore, but she would have. Guess it took a heart attack to make her stop. I was also a smoker for a total of 10 years, but I have been smoke-free for 5.5 years now (used the patch).
I am not sure if she ever tested for RA, though I did suggest it due to the HCV cause she can't walk very far without her 'hips locking up' as she says it. Docs have suggested her going to the chiropractor, but getting her to go (or do anything) is like pushing a boulder uphill. She will learn. Thank you for the welcome prayers!
