I was in the 4th grade in Eagle River, Alaska. Mr. Powell was my teacher and we were outside during recess. They called us in and announced that JFK had been shot.

I made a joking remark to a friend, not realizing the severity of the events. I felt guilty for years afterwards.

My dad had an album called The First Family that made fun of JFK's accent and speaking pattern. He never played it again, and ended up breaking it into pieces. The original would most likely be a collector's item today.

Same here Bob. 4th grade Catholic school. It was frightening and as somber as Good Friday.

I had just turned 7 years young back then a few weeks before that day, and I'll never forget actually seeing my Grandfather crying for the first time in my life which I didn't think was possible for him to do... :>(

The reason my Abuelo got so emotional was because he had personally shook John Kennedy's hand @ a campaign stop in New York before he became President in 1960.

My Grandfather really worshiped President Kennedy so much so that he had a framed picture in which had a charcoal sketch of President Kennedy hung on a wall right next to a picture of Jesus Christ in his living room when I used to go stay with my grandparents around the Thanksgiving holiday, and around this date over in Little Italy on Mulberry Street between Grand & Broome streets back in those days. ;>)

Everybody was shocked back then even some of us kids once we figured out what actually happened...
