Well Kramer, you know I'm not on S&O but Incivek is in the same family as Olysio & has the same issue (maybe worse because it is a 1st generation inhibitor of that type). Anyway, I live in FL & like to boat & walk my dogs. I was frightened of going outdoors but especially on the waters with the reflective Gulf shining on me. I bought a 50spf Fishing Shirt & Pants. They are lightweight, breathable but block the sun. I also applied a sunscreen to all exposed skin & even under the fishing shirt & pants. Good polarized sunglasses & protective floppy hat. I looked marvelous & when I felt well enough I could get geared up and enjoyed a safe day out on the boat. I developed those terrible rashes that come from Incivek so I was extra vigilant about covering the skin. Oh, and light sensitivity to driving at night. I bought the yellow night vision glasses to cut down on glare if I did have to drive. I started in Oct. & by Christmas the lights from the decorations & the cars drove me batty & I avoided night driving at all costs.

I'm taking the Olysio and just spent 2 entire days at Legoland with my little girl and used sunblock and wore a linen shirt and had no problems at all, If was sunny both days so for me irs nof been a problem, I go for runs in the sun in tanktop with no sunblock about 20-30 mins and have not had any issues, but I also don't burn too bad normally and normally never wear sunblock. I think it wise to wear the block or long sleeves, hats etc... just in case, but no need to vamp. out only emerging at night :)

Thank you AAL. I think statistically Oly is no where near as nasty as Incivek but about 21% of people develop some rash from sun light. I think the occasional case was so bad hospitalization was required.
I had no problem on Riba and that is reported to cause photosensitivity.
I though that as there are folks from southern states here that are already on it, I could get some comments.
I just want to be able to go out on my bike for the afternoon and hoping a high SPF lotion will allow me to dress in summer attire.

Thank you Arabella ..your scenario is what I am hoping will work for me too. Winters are oh so long in Toronto and I'm craving some warm days, fresh air and outdoor activities!

I've got considerable photosensitivity going on - taking S&O as you know. I don't know if it's part of the Sovaldi headache or not, but I'm considering it a separate issue that is exacerbated by the headache. I don't go outside much to begin with (couch potato and the blazing desert sun has always hurt my eyes), but when I do, it's long sleeves, long pants, floppy hat and even a scarf to protect my neck. Glad I'm doing this tx before it really heats up in late May. Sunscreen on my hands. Taking no chances, and it's bad enough already. Light eyes and have always been photosensitive, so it was a good bet it would get worse on Olysio.

I'd say if you didn't experience it in riba you won't on this. I had really bad photosensitivity on Riba! Nothing on S&O though i am not in a hot sunny climate but having no problem. I used SPF 100 and I also bought a safari type hat that was lightweight and spf treated. There are shirts etc you can buy online that are SPF treated --- *IF* you find it'd a problem for you...

I live for riding my bike along the lake. Will just slather up an test the waters for the first few outings.

I live in texas and did yardwork quite often. I used spf 50 and had no problems. I wore jeans and a tshirt.
