Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
so I took the triple treatment with riba, interferon and incivek, but the virus came back and now that harvoni is out and looks promising I cant take it because of prior tx? how disappointing is that? so sad and hopeless now with current viral load of 8mil, the doctor said he considered 1mil to be high. I probably don't have the strength to go through another tx, the first one that was supposed to work( that's why they prescribed it right?) didn't do the job and it wasn't fun. so now what?
As per the VL count, some doctors don't think it's as important as others, and can fluctuate quite drastically. It's really the condition of your liver that matters.
And finally, when I searched for Harvoni + prior treatment, I found the following. To me, it looks like it can be prescribed. Getting insurance to pay for it is another matter:
The fixed dose combination ledipasvir-sofosbuvir (90 mg/400 mg) is FDA-approved for the treatment of chronic hepatitis C genotype 1 in both treatment-naive and treatment-experienced patients. The treatment duration depends on prior treatment experience and the presence or absence of cirrhosis.

I have cirrhosis.
These guys are right, it is up to the insurance (WHICH IS WRONG)
Hopefully your doc will fight for you....if not, find another.
