The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Private health plans are now covering oral meds.
I found out today and have started the wheels in motion for coverage of Sovaldi and Galexus (Simprevir and Olysio/Simeprevir) off label in Ontario.
Sun Life and ManuLife have both of these drugs listed.
If you have private health insurance in Canada call your provider

LOL I was shaking when I found out this information. Called the hospital and they told me what to do!
It's not in the bag yet but it's finally something happening for me. 45 years of HCV and just watching people come and go (God bless them) Maybe my turn will pan out! Promise to keep folks posted.

This is to ImKramer. I am also with Manulife. Are you fully covered or do you have to pay for 20%. Pharmacare will not cover yet as far as I know. They told me I had Hepatitis C 2 years ago.
Also Congrats to you for sharing.

luckyestlady. Yes there will most likely be a 20% copay but the nurse at the hospital said not to worry as Gilead and Janssen will both help out with that.

I think Geno 2 is being treated with Sovaldi and Ribavrin only these days ..not sure but please do check with your Dr. and yes Manulife is covering these drugs.
Call your Dr. and then contact Manulife with the DIN and get the ball rolling!
This all just happened in with Manulife this past week!
