Seems to be the protocol, sadly. If you have a reason you are contraindicated for Interfeton ( null responder or other health issues) then your Dr. has good grounds to defend why you should be covered for this off label therapy.
That being said, FDA approval for all oral treatments will be at hand end of Summer. Don't despair.

Your profile does not list and previous treatments so i assume you are tx naive? That makes it harder to get approved. BUT, I see in you profile you have depression. That could be used in your appeal if you are being treated for it or have (or can get) a conclusive diagnosis.

Clovers, go to the gilead website for sovaldi. They offer a copay assistance program. It makes your out of pocket virtually nothing! Best of luck!

Remember, once you exhaust all appeals then you contact the pharma companies for each drug. They have assistance programs that will cover your expenses

Fight for it, girl. I hope your doc. is well informed about what an appeal needs to be, to include about your history, past tx, etc. There are guidelines somewhere that I've seen. Ask your doc. if he has them. One reason I was approved for Sovaldi/Olysio is a past history, well documented, of depression (and anxiety, but depression is the key word).

I did the interferon/riba about 6yrs ago had to be taken off due to blood levels dropping, had to be given shots to improve my red cells.. I have cirrhosis stage 4 last cat scan shows signs that my liver is getting worse.

I thought it was a trick or a joke. P.A.N. called and confirmed.

My co-pays amounted to over 16,000 dollars for the whole 12 week course. (Sovaldi/Olysio) I am on day 26. I have already received the 2nd shipment.

I do not pay a dime. Which I thank God for.

I would suggest letting your doctor navigate with P.A.N. although you can go to their web site and do it the hard way.

I should add...I have been stage 4 fib/cirrhosis with a complicated history of internal bleeding due to portal hypertension from the cirrhosis.

Meaning, original s.o.c. with interferon was never an option...Doctors flat wouldnt let me even try old tx.

So clovers, I just wrote on the other thread about calling your insurance co. back and this time getting a supervisor or manager type on the phone, but.... I think I'd honestly be calling my DOCTOR for help at this point. Lev is right. Doctors can get to people in those places that we can't.
