Good article Kramer. I was diagnosed w/hypo-thyroidism several years before I knew I had hcv. I wonder if the thyroid gland will heal after becoming svr; that is if it's somehow caused or enhanced by hcv. hmmmmmm. It would be nice to get off the synthroid.

Thanks! I've long thought I have a thyroid issue but doc told me no. My T3 and T4 tests - one was high the other low. I might try another deoc and have it tested agian, BUT...do i want to medication to adjust it???

My normal body temp never goes about 97.6. Today it was 96.4. This is NOT upon awakening, but after being up and about! (I also have dry skin and hair, but I have Sjogrens which cause that as does aging.)

RASS, insist on a thyroid antibodies test in addition to having your TSH tested and t3 and t4. You may have Hashimoto's disease which is an auto immune disorder that affects the thyroid. Quite common. You can have thyroid numbers that are within range and still be symptomatic. With Hashimoto's the thyroid is in flux and you may go from hyper to hypo and back or be within range on TSH tests but, feel quite ill. Sjogrens is auto immune as well, and if you have one auto immune condition it is common to have others. Thyroid medication is cheap and may make you feel better. Basically it supplements what you may not be able to make on your own. TSH testing is quite archaic and very imprecise but most Drs ball park everything around it, much more important is the antibody test which you'll probably have to push for. Worth it to know though if you are having thyroid issues.

my username RASS stems from the TWO autommune diseases i have: RA (rheumatoid arthritis AND sjogrens!) so, yes very likely I have a third!! AND HCV may have triggered all of them!!

So glad you found my post helpful RASS :) I would like to share a link to a very informative site when it comes to all things thyroid. The info on adrenals is helpful as well. My adrenals are shot, so I am working on trying to resurrect them as well as treat the Hashimotos. Best wishes on sorting out your immune issues. Sux, I know. Hope this is helpful. :)
