I'm sorry Lou did not come out about HCV as he is candid on IV drug use so it's probably the case here and he could have made some good out of it all. IMHO

Thanks for the podst Kramer. Im gonna be looking at all the p[post habving to do with transplants now. I cant belive that was Lou Reed he really shows the wherathing of it all. He doesnt look nothing like I remember him on Smokey and the bandit...or was it the one where he had a monkey ride with him... I cant remember one of those anyways. Hope thats what we have. MWC - I used to play "Heroin" over and over and over - and yes, he and the Velvet Underground did it in the way you described - you could feel the building of the rush as the intensity of the song/music built ... just like H going into the vein and your blood singing in ecstasy. Don't mean to glorify it, but that's how it was. Just one drawback - a helluva a lot of people got HCV from slammin' it. Like me.

I always figured that Lou could not have escaped HCV, yet he never admitted it - he still doesn't - his wife just mentions the IV drug use. Right kramer, he could have done a lot of good by "coming out" - maybe he will now.

After I posted, I thought, "Well, DID he have HCV? Maybe not." A bit of googling, and well, rather a strange sentence in this article, "He has previously suffered from hepatitis." Huh? Previously? He cleared it? If not - we all know what that means.

Well, anyway, I wish him well. He got an "immediate" transplant and was able to go to a great clinic - so I'd say he is doing well financially, and I'm glad he is. So many of "us" never live as long as Lou has - and myself. I am grateful to be alive. I know he is too.

I know someone who has cleared the virus too - with trial drugs - and has been waiting for a transplant for a while now because he went into HCC - removed a couple of tumors, but when his AFP shot up because of them, he was taken off the transplant list (AFP over 1,000!). I don't get it, why that took him off the list - but hopefully the latest tumor tx got all of it and his AFP goes down - needs to be under 500 to get back on the list. Indeed, it's not something anyone wants to go thru.

Yes says he and John Cale were shooting buddies and they both were ill with "hepatits?" in 1966 so who knows.
It's everyone's own choice but as Angelina turned breast cancer and mastectomy into a great PR spin, so could other celebs if they are already out about lifestyle and consequences. IMHO

Had it not been for his celebrity he would have never gotten the transplant. Perhaps not really fair but I do love him.
