Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Liver problems, health issues

I am at start of stage 4 and on week 9 of 3x treatment. Did not realize, or think that my liver was causing me noticeable health problems until I started reading about other peoples issues. I thought I was just getting old and things change. Can anybody direct me to a site that has the physical effects of liver damage? I've been watching for yellow eyes and that's about it.

Welcome to DS.

I don't have much liver damage but have had HCV for over 40 years. I'll be 63 next month. I often wonder what is age and what is HCV. I had asthma most of my life and just thought I was out of shape. Steroids cured that 15 years ago. I just finished HCV tx and I'm hoping to feel 20 years younger soon.

Great sites 4hens. I also just finished tx. I've had HCV for over 30 years and also had a myriad of symptoms over the last five years or so. Most of these can be explained by HCV. I hope so, because I'm expecting to be almost perfect six months from now!

The only symptom of liver disease that I can directly attribute to this disease would be the episodes of hepatitis encephalopathy that I have had. They creep up so slowly that you don't realize what is happening to you. I finally started recognizing the symptoms early enough to start on my meds and prevent having a major episode.

There are so many parts of your system affected by liver damage. You can't process/filter toxins as well, you can't digest food as well, metabolism is messed up, energy levels are low. After you finish treatment you have to heal your body and brain. It is suggested that we eat like a gorilla: Mostly fresh vegetables, some fruit, nuts, seeds, grain and lean proteins. Check out Dr. Daniel Amen's website and see how just having the good/bad bacteria in our stomachs messed up can really cause severe problems and how to heal yourself, look and feel better. It is expensive, but you can still get all the information by reading all of the topics, FAQs, newsletter and more. You have to stop eating processed food, stop trusting corporations with your health. Eat organic, whole foods, drink distilled or mineral water, take vitamins, D, Bs, fish oil, and more listed there. Exercise 3 Xs a week, exercise your brain with games, memory tests and such, I feel confident there are more answers there than in most Dr.s offices. It is an amazing collection of common sense and advice.
