Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Great news, and I'm sure they'll keep extending the time on a lot of organs.
By the way, that photo is worth the price of admission - they're like a big happy family of doctors with "liver baby."

That's great! When I had my transplant, I got a call at 7pm at night and was told they needed me in surgery at 9pm. I live an hour away from the hospital and had to quickly round up a relative to take me. They had flown my liver in from another state.

I heard about this from my own Transplant Doctor about a year ago who did a presentation...

"During the 63rd annual meeting of the American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases two breaking abstracts about the use of the Liver Assist are presented.

Machine Perfusion under subnormothermic conditions with a new oxygen-carrier solution: the future of liver preservation - Dr. Paulo Fontes presents the latest results of his transplantation-model study with the use of the Liver Assist in Pittsburgh (USA) that has been finished in September 2012."

My Doc explained to me how it works and I was fascinated to say the least!
