For anyone looking for life insurance, just to cover basic post mortem expenses, there are many no questions asked policies at reasonable prices thru AAA, AARP, etc. For $15-20/mo it won't pay off college loans but it will deal with remains. Do you have life insurance on your mortgage loan so your family will have a place to live?
From my personal experience, my opinion is that it is a loving act to take some responsibility now to help prevent added grief and distress to loved ones at the worst & most vulnerable time of their lives. Don't be shy about telling them what you want so they do not have to feel guilty about cremation or a pine box.

My hubby and I have Term Life insurance through AARP......costs us $227 a quarter for both of us...........policies are only $25K each.....but it will bury us ..........and provide someone with a little extra spending money (as we have no outstanding debts)

Of course since it is Term Life................the price goes up about every 5 years......and once we hit 80 ( I think) they will dump us.

Also..........our wills clearly state we are to be cremated.....so that should save someone a few bucks.

If we ever get enough $$ ahead we have considered getting a "pre paid" funeral stuff.............think you can do that even with a cremation.........really haven't checked into it.

Should we both die together (car accident or whatever).......his sister gets the money......should she already be gone........it goes to the No Kill Shelter here where we live.............

Good luck trying to get life insurance, disability insurance, or health insurance. It's not an accident that the insurance companies are geared up to deal with the five million plus Americans with Hep C who are going to need either repeated treatment with a bad drug that doesn't work, or a $500,000 liver transplant (maybe even two!). Those backroom deals were cut way back in the 80's when Regan first found out about Hep C. from the Red Cross. The Red Cross also has an extensive list of people who have donated who tested positive for Hep C. The Red Cross wanted the government to notify people thirty years ago, but they haven't yet. The thinking was it was a drug addict street person disease, guess they didn't count on 30% of healthcare workers, doctors, nurses, etc gettine infected (which then, of course, passes on to the general public)...or maybe they did.

They say it's not a good thing to pre-pay funerals, just put money in the bank. I can't get insurance, well that's how I found out I have Hep C. My husband has it and I told him if you are going to die, do it before the policy is up NOT the after it terminates. Such a loving wife.

Don't tell my wife but I hope this kills me before I quit working so she can get the extra life insurance from the policy I have at work, even more if i drop while I'm at work. I'm 62, in pain, and weak as hell from 48 weeks of tx. I don't want another liver and I won't survive another round of tx. I am at peace. Insurance and drugs aren't my salvation.
