The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- Thursday, Idenix Pharmaceuticals (IDIX) presented investors with a detailed update on IDX-184 and the earlier-stage IDX-19368, two hepatitis C drug candidates that were placed on clinical hold by the FDA last month.

Hey Kramer, I see a lot of articles about HCV and know you are looking for an interferon-free tx. After your extensive research, have you any opinions as to which drug is the best that is the closest (in terms of FDA approval time) to this goal?

Also, have you come across any info on interferon lambda? I hear it does the work of interferon alpha but no sides. Heard anything on that? It would probably take a lot to convince folks with a bad interferon experience to try the lambda version.

There's so much out there, it's difficult to categorize everything. Thanks for your HCV work.

Yes I understand Interferon Lambda is much more user friendly and effective.

Here's a link from EASL 2012, Barcelona; regarding a study on Lambda and Geno 2 and 3 tolerance of sx's. Geno 1a and 1b have a benign effect with lambda.

Thanks Jibi... I'll look around for any info for GT 1. But I still wonder about the sides. Interferon is interferon is interferon, no?
