Hi all, I am new to the forum and have been reading and getting some questions answered but I cant seem to find out much about low platelet count.
My husband Michael failed 2 rounds of treatment in the past and just finished the incevik virus free. He had his 12 week appt yesterday. He tolerated the incevik well, so far only had a low rbc that was fixed by lowering the rib from 5 to 4 a day and lesser problems like mouth sores and itching but today The DR called today to advise Michaels platelets are low, My question is...What is treatment to raise them? Is there a medication? He woke today feeling bad, very nauseous. He cant really describe how he feels but he doesn't look good, his eyes are very dark and sunk in. Could this be from the platelets or could his body be trying to get use to not having the incevik ? I could not find much about platelets. The DR just said to have blood done in 1 week. The Dr also told us yesterday that we should not celebrate yet even though he is virus free it could come back. His VL will be checked often and until 6 months after treatment is done, if the vl shows even 1 then the treatment is stopped (we were told this happens in 10 to 20 percent of people. This really bummed Michael out. Has anyone else heard of the virus coming back after the incevik?

But anytime you are not sure about what is a normal side effect please call your doctor. They have very good meds for nausea and lots of the other side effects.
There is a treatment for platelets, but they have to be very low. I would ask your doctor what his count is and at what point do they treat.
Getting blood work done every week will tell your doctor how he is handling the drugs and if treatment is needed. Get copies of his lab results.

TulsaGal, I document every aspect of his treatment and have copies of all test and labs. I'm glad you mentioned getting copies cause it is so very important to have this information on hand in case any emergencies arise and you don't have access to your Dr and their records. Good advise.
dillytime, you made us feel better knowing there are other options right around the corner. that is awesome the treatment is working for you and if it weren't for people like you being brave enough to participate in the trials we would not have these meds, thank you and I am going to read up on the abbott trial. Have you had any side effects?
