I wonder why they focused only on illicit drug use. Wouldn't all this data be very important for doctors and dentists to know in terms of sterilizing all equipment and surfaces etc.??? Not to mention tatoo artists -- a source of disease spreading thst most all articles seem to miss...

IMHO, that sort of statement is at the very least, questionable.
Also, notice how both articles have basically the same written Forewords.

Malt agar and proper temperatures can grow almost any living thing (simplified). Bugs just need fuel, temperature and oxygen or no oxygen to grow. Competing molds and bacteria not withstanding.
