I believe a Google Account is for folks trying to promote a website. It's a paid service.

Nope. Their intention is about liability and having to maintain data in inactive accounts of dead people. No doubt Facebook and others will follow soon. No charge. Free service.

Sadly, 2 people on my friends list are gone. Kind of creeps me out but I feel it would be disrespectful to unfriend them. Weird

I still get birthday reminders from passed friend on FB - it is weird. Can't really delete them though....

We all would liked to be remembered when we go so maybe this is a nice way to just stop and think about why that person was your friend; memories of the relationship!
