Got mine at the University in the middle of October....then caught a cold a few days later ROFL.....BUT, I got my flu shot, so I am covered. Quadrivalent flu shot to be exact.

I never had a flu shot and haven't had in flu in 30 years, even with kids in school.

I do my part to support third immunity that the entire population enjoy. This means that those that get the flu shot are taking measures not only for themselves not to get sick but infect others. So ..for those of you that choose not to get the shot, it's your choice but be grateful to those that do and do not get sick and pass it on to you.

Flu vaccine also contains sulfa, which can cause a severe allergic reaction in some people.

Got mine 2 weeks ago. Since my immune system is shot because of the transplant, I was told to get one each year. Had no problems at all from it.

What Marilyn is trying to write is that because she has had a liver transplant, she must take as well as myself also, an anti-rejection drug on a daily basis in order to compromise her immune system so that her own natural immune response doesn't attack her transplanted liver reacting as if it were something foreign invading her body...

In essence, the drugs are fooling the immune system in responding that the liver is supposed to be there so long as it stays healthy and doesn't cause any attention for the immune system to respond to any new damage the chronic recurrent HCV would cause...

Because once that starts, the immune system isn't as "fooled" as much, and basically accelerates the damage process which is why it is so important to treat ASAP as long as the treatment is tolerable and with her complications, the current SOC would only increase the potential to cause more damage than to kill the virus...

I have been taking the flu shot for the last 20 years now and after my transplant I no longer can take a "live" vaccination without increasing the potential for some serious complitcationss if I were to be exposed to one... I got my shot almost month ago...

So the flu shot I get is not a live vaccine, and yet it never fails for me to get the flu within a month or two later!!! Still, it's only a very light and brief episode as opposed to being for all intended purposes, a gravely ill individual which would happen if didn't get vaccinated at all...

Sure I have had reservations about taking the flu shot but for me at least, it's one of the necessary compromises I must accept in order to survive and Marilyn is in the same boat as I'm on with respect to getting her yearly flu shots. ;>)

Some people have a natural resistance/immunity response to getting infected with the flu and I can understand why they choose not get the vaccination and then there are folks that do need to get their annual flu shots because of other illnesses they may have and/or how weak their own immune system is because of a various reasons...

So if you are constantly interacting around crowded conditions the a flu shot would be advisable in order to lessen the almost guaranteed possibility of getting the flu because your experience in fighting the flu will be better than not being vaccinated and the entire episode will be substantially less severe & end quicker...

Bottom line is it's ultimately your choice and I for one respect it either way as long as you don't go out knowingly that you have the flu and are knowingly exposing other folks who you may not even know besides the ones that you already do to the flu because that is being inconsiderate and very selfish indeed. Now, If you don't have the flu because you have a natural immunity to the virus then I envy you! ;>) ;>) ;>)

Hmmmm, I get sick less I think, on the years I get the Flu vaccine, which I did this year, but not last year, as I had just finished Tx and was freaked out about everything, etc.
I dont think I have ever had The Flu (respiratory) as I have a highly over-active immune system, that seems chock full of natural Interferon, which attacks everything in it[s path.

I don't think you're a "true nutter" Q!!! To me you're more like hazelnut spread and marshmallow spread together in a specially shaped tart.;>)

Thanks for the reminder, Kramer. It is important for me to get the flu shot, as I share a home with my elderly mother and infant nephew. It's only 25 bucks, and it isn't interferon! :~)
