Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Hi Gang,
It will be two weeks this Thursday that I have been off tx and still detectable. I still can't believe I went through all that crap for what seems like nothing. Some will argue that point I am sure. I still feel like crap and in someways worse. I do have some moments that feel somewhat normal but they don't last long. I posted on Sunday that I had a date with my husband which was very nice. We went to the casino and for the drivemy husband put in one of my fav cd's. But by the time we got home I was feeling very bitter and out of sorts. Had it been before treatment we would have maybe gone to see a band and have a few drinks or (one of favorite things to do) go to the studio were my husband's band practices and sing my heart of while my husband played guitar. All the while having a glass of wine. I hate that my life has changed so much. Everywere I go everyone is having a drink. Especially with Christmas season upon us. I miss it and I want my life back. I wasn't an alcoholic just a social drinker and hate being told I can't do it. I understand why people that dink to the excess shouldn't but what is wrong with a couple of glasses of wine everynow and again???? This frustrates me to know end. I want to go to Jamaica in March and can't even have a couple of cocktails while on vacation?????? WTF.
I go back to work full time not this Monday but the next and boy o boy not looking forward to it. The way I feel right now not sure how well that is going to work out but again I don't have a choice!! I just can't see it happening, not with the way I feel. I sure I am alot better by then. Have you ever seen such a negative person?? Funny cause I used to say to my husband "being in a bad mood is a choice".I don't seem to have a choice these days. Sometimes I wonder if any of this is worth it.... By the way I hope everone was able to stay out of the line on Sandy last night. Be safe everone.

It is a bitch to go through the tortures of treatment and not be successful. So you have every right to be depressed. But it will get better. I promise. You are healing and still have the meds in your system.
As far as drinking, that is an individual choice and the condition of your liver is a huge consideration. I would have a margarita occassionally until I realized that it took several days to recuperate from one drink. I haven't had a drink since last year and I am okay with it. Sometimes my life sucks so bad that it is a very good thing that I don't drink. I probably wouldn't stop if I started.
Just take it a day at a time. Maybe going back to work will be a good thing. Working always helps me forget my problems.

First of all, of course you belong here! This is a support group, and it sounds to me like you could use some support right now.
I am extremely anxious about my next blood work in a few weeks, I just can't imagine being told I'm still detectible and it's time to stop treatment. Hang in there.
Finally, I agree with you that being in a bad mood is not always a choice. Sure, sometimes we can do things to make ourselves feel better, but there are times when our brain chemistry just isn't right. These drugs we take have some nasty side effects, mood changes are listed right up there at the top. And they don't always go away the minute you stop taking the drugs. Please consider talking to your doctor if your mood doesn't improve.

I wish you would stay- you gave me HOPE when I came on three weeks ago. I also am frustrated and extremely negative lately.
Not having support at home sucks, at least for me it does. I feel I can vent here and be heard and not chastised..
We didn't ask for this to happen to us. *i must remember this.

That being said, that is why you belong here. If it were not for people like yourself the newbies would not have a clue and it keeps the veterans in check. You are not alone with your treatment and with life's general struggles. The beauty with it is that you can share it with us.
Hopefully getting back to work will help. I'm certain your life will return to normal.

Regarding alcohol- there's a lot of zero tolerance to alcohol on hcv forums - in part I suppose because there are many in recovery here.
I agree with Tulsa that it has a lot to do with the condition of your liver. Ask you doctor. My doctor, a well known hepatalogist, thinks it's ok to drink in moderation when not on tx.
(full disclosure- I drink a lot more than I should and would very much like to stop)

It has been 4 months since I stoped TX and I really have no clue if I am feeling better or not physically or mentally.
I have cirrhosis so I choose not to drink full stop..I can not tell others what to do,my liver will not allow me to drink anymore.
I dont join in alot of topics anymore as my energy mentally seems to be pushing me back.
I hold on to the thought that a treatment will come and that tommorow will be a better day.

I look at it like this: it didn't kill me & may have even made me stronger.
NEW TX THAT IS 100% EFFECTIVE AND GENTLE IS COMING. 12 - 14 MONTHS. Be patient & heal now. You deserve it.
P.S. Your hubby sounds great.
Should probab ly keep that liver as clean as possible for the next treatments that come availible.
