I post a thread also for those who will need the long term insurance in order to go on treatment.
Today with all the new combo drugs and competition of different companies, many offer trial drugs free of charges.
Another thing, if you are on a trial base program, from either a Medical University or whatever you get the best of care, since you are doing them a favor in taking their trial medication.

I used the name brand inteferon - Pegasys. I used the name brand ribavarin - Copegus.
Insurance covered these meds but if I'd had to pay out of pocket, each vial of Pegasys would have cost $1500 and each 30 day supply of Copegus would have cost $300.

After spending 3% if my yearly income, Schering-Plough sends me my meds free of charge. It's not the redi-pen but comes in 2 vials with 2 syringes that I have to mix together and inject. Kind of scary, wondering if I'm doing it right. Yet I am grateful since I couldn't afford them on my own.

Just read the direction real good and everything should be fine.
I had a friend years ago that had his meds like that, I know it can be weird to mix it up yourself.

When my GI doctor told us the cost of my treatment would be around $15,000 my husband and I almost passed out. We do have insurance but no prescription coverage. My doctor hooked us up with the patient advocate in his office. She contacted the pharmaceutical company and I am getting my entire treatment (48 wks) free of charge. If you need help with the cost talk to your doctor, there are many options available. Hopefull1
