Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

Hi guys,
This school year is so busy and I haven't been on much. TulsaGal was taking an antifibrosis med. Is anyone else trying it?
I"m end stage and still SVR. Woohoo! I'm doing all right, but work is getting harder with long hours.
If any of you are looking into a trial, or on one - I would love to hear from you.

Karen, I finished my treatments and just had a biopsy last Thursday and haven't heard back on the results. At the same time they checked my portal pressures and those had not improved. Prior to treatment they were 9. Last week they were 10. That's still okay. 12 is when it gets dangerous. So I would be surprised to see any improvement in my biopsy. But that's why they do trials. It has been hard but interesting to travel to DC. No side effects except that my mouth burns. No adverse changes in my labs from the treatment. What was low is still low and what was high is still high. Except my viral load has increased from 4300 to around 17,000.000. It has never been high, but that really doesn't mean anything. The NIH people think that if your liver is not functioning well your viral load is low because the virus is trapped in your liver. And the high viral load could mean that my liver is functioning better. Not sure if I buy that theory.
I am still holding out for a cure for my HCV. But doing okay in the meantime.

Hay girlio! I think about you every day when I drink coffee from my Starbucks cup. That was fun!
You know, I do buy into that viral trapped theory. My TP doc sold me on it. So it made sense to me.
Are you going to try for the new treatment? I have friend, Lucinda Porter who gave it a go. Her 3rd try. She just got her SVR back. There is hope.
So your labs are good, but your portal vein is no change. That portal vein outcome was one thing I look at. I'm so happy that it went well for you.

I am waiting for the new drugs to hit the market. I could get them from NIH but I am sick of traveling. And they are not sure if the 12 week treatments will be successful in the long run. There are concerns about relapsing. Who knows when dealing with new drugs? So I plan on sitting back and watching for a while.
Call me when you are in my neck of the woods. I always enjoy a reason to get out of the house.
