Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Your body is fighting a serious disease and these meds are super strong. I know one day I felt awful and when my PCP saw my labwork, she wanted to put me in the hospital. I told her "no",
I am more comfortable at home.
The drugs were messing with everything that worked normally in my system. I took Sov/riba and for 24 weeks.
Yes, i would be tired. I rested whenever I was able to. And drink the water - it really helps!!
God Bless.
Drink lots of water, and water and water - not tea, not sodas, which dry you out. Eat lots of Protein-rich foods, too. Good food is KEY with treatment. Stay OUT of the sun - period, no ifs ands or butts! I learned that one the hard way cuz I love to walk when it's sunny & love to lie out in the sun, but during my mid-May to 8-8 treatment on Sovaldi & Ribavirin, I did develop a rash on my elbows (Chicken Skin is the nickname and it looked exactly like that, too), as well as dry spots on my hands, just from pulling up my britches (in that spot btwn the thumb & forefinger - drove me nuts at times). So, for rashes, I finally found that Apple Cider Vinegar rubbed on with a cotton ball, then covered with Colloidal Oatmeal creme/lotion (Eucerin makes one, found in the Baby Section).
Don't give up this soon - you will adjust to it, truly you will. Trust that, and remember that you are actively involved in saving your life.
I was able to take some Valium with my Hep doc's approval as the Riba was making me a 'Crazy lady" - FOR SURE - I was on it for 24 weeks, so you can imagine what a lunatic I became!!
I'm not good with all the natural supplements that Zennah mentioned, but she is. If you feel the need to be off work, then do so (if you can).
I actually would lock myself in my bedroom so I would quit abusing my husband and just snapping at him. He didn't even do anything.
I was just so angry and full of rage. I had to learn how to control myself (which was to put myself in a different room at times, plus my doc did lower my Riba due to my labwork.
that was scary, but it helped.
Good luck and God Bless.
The Ribavirin is the one probably , that is making you tired.
they say it's harder in the beginning.
I suppose it is true. water water water.
i used to read the posts , long b 4 I began tx, and thought , why are these people talking so much about water ?
lol , but now i get it.
when on tx, I felt better when I put supplements in my water once a day.....I got from .99 cent store, but they have in grocery store for money , Energy or EnergyC ...have to look it up.
i got 2 different types......one, mainly Vit C/
the other was green and had at least some of the stuff that Zennah mentioned......I think that one, did make me feel more perked up.
i would mix it into a large water container once a day, mix well and put it in freezer.......
then take out before completely frozen but icy .......it tastes better that way.
and if i were you, i would use something like that at work then water also.
it gets better, plus when they do your lab work and if you become anemic , they can adjust the Riba and that helps , a Lot.
I hear ya and feel that pain and frustration you are feeling
I am 14 weeks into my tx (24wks) and the Riba is rotten ..
I didnt start feeling tired till 2 weeks ago ,my iron is down .
The riba makes me nuts too ..but because I am a generally very calm person ..I feel like i'm angry ..my friends just tell me I get "mildly irritated" ..lol
I have been bad at drinking the water for the last week or so and the headaches were really bad ..then I remembered (it turned colder and im in Canada ) .. I just forgot to keep chugging water all day
Today I have done way better and i cant believe the difference today
@lovefall ..thanks for reminding me that this is a serious disease and super strong meds .. I needed that to remember to give myself the permission to take things easy
Sorry ... DonnaWhite ..This is going to CURE you before you end up really sick..
I just keep telling myself
THIS WILL PASS THE TX WILL END ..lol and I WILL get better
Hang in there friend
you can do this when I was going thru Chemo 2013 people would always say this
"you got it !! you are a fighter and you will win! .we with hep c don't get that encouragement so I'm hoping this will help
WE GOT THIS !!!YOU CAN DO
prayers
Jan
this too shall pass...
Think of your personal goals , strengths and plans for what you will do to celebrate being free of this potentially life threatening disease.
I think I had pains in the first couple weeks of treatment but mostly my head as I recall it.
It got better. It passed. My biggest side effect was fatigue, weakness , dizzy feeling from Riba induced anemia.
I did not have the rage thing kick in until a little later on. And it was not constant but would pop up time to time for ridiculous things.
like my dog taking too long to sniff instead of walking , or someone talking to me that I don't want to talk to.
I would feel intense irritation , like "OH come ON ! -----
Give me a break !!!" (in my head , I tried for it to not come out of my mouth, lol )
and then I would recognize it for what it was......a side effect , and just stop, take a calming breath--and start over.
And remind myself , this is temporary inconvenience. It is not forever and will change my life for the better....:-)
