Am I understanding the article? That type1 will still have to do the interferon and riba? It's wonderful news for everyone who can do just the orals, shorter times etc fewer sides....it's a very exciting time and I hope many here will be able to take advantage of it!

Yes for now but we are hoping that Dr.s will treat "off label" meaning combining Sofosbuvir and Simeprevir, no interferon. This is possible as early as Dec. of this year.

I still don't get this. I am so damn confused. The nurse I talked with today that wants me to do the triple treatment trial said that interferon free would not be out until late 2014 or 2015 for geno type 1'S

I'm geno 1B and on a clinical trial right now - BI.

My doc assured me just today that while the drugs headed for approval right now are for gen 2 - there are ones in the wings for approval next year for gen 1...like mine! cause you can bet if this trial doesn't work for me, I will be back looking for the next!

PS didn't read the article, just excerpt, and i kinda smelled a very strong stench of what we used to call payolla...not that i'm against getting these meds to those of us who need them, but we also know that the fda has approved some pretty bad shit in the past, like thalydimide. if you never heard of this baby twisting drug prescribed for prego moms, check it out! babies born with HORRIBLE deformities because of a drug to help their moms cope with nausea during pregnancy! talk about a cure being WAAY worse than the problem it's intended to treat! The FDA scares the daylights out of me. as do pahrm cos...but we're all at their mercy, so shut up RAASS. OK.

Sofosbuvir and Simeprevir should both be approved by Dec. 2013.

That being said the FDA approval will be for:
Sofosbuvir - geno 2,3
Simeprevir with Interferon for geno 1
We are hoping that Dr.s will take it upon themselves to treat geno 1patients who cannot wait with a combination of the two drugs.
That is known as "off label". It can be done!
