The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

How is fatty liver diagnosed? Does it show in a biopsy? Or blood test? I'm a little underweight but have high cholesterol because of my kidney disease.

It shows up in an ultrasound and a biopsy as fr as I have experienced

Mine showed up in a CT scan. And I am VERY thin. Doc thinks it's mainly from my 2 decades of heavy boozing. Fried food makes me feel sick - or anything heavy in fat - like prime rib - omg - as much as I love it, it's not worth it. Fatty food is hard on hepper livers. If and when I eat it, my liver lets me know it doesn't like it.

My ultrasound showed "cirrhosis", but my hepatologist is sure that it was the steatosis (fatty liver) that it picked up. BTW, folks, today I had a visit with a doctor who spent a lot of time analyzing those two biopsies I had - in May 2012 that indicated late stage 3 or early 4, and the one in March 2013 showing stage 1. He looked at all the CT scans, ultrasounds and labs - too. Nope, I'm not stage 1. BOTH biopsies were "sampling errors." One got a nice healthy sliver of liver - the other got some bad juju slices. He said I'm probably a 3 - and that is that. I pray for the ALL ORALS for ALL OF US.

I asked him why bx was the "gold standard" if these sampling errors occur (and more often than we think). He said it's the best tool there is for determining fibrosis - BUT, it's far from infallible given the size of the liver.

Yep ~ I'm rather double whammed with HCV and steatosis - and I refuse to be wham slammed by HCC or not responding well to treatment. Come on Big Pharmas - you've got money on the tables out here - bring those sweet all oral drugs ON. Bribe the FDA - whatever you must do.

This disease is why Galectin Science is so important to develop, and I'm glad that it's being developed with the start of a phase I clinical trial... There are so many people that have this condition and are totally unaware of it. RNAi and Micro-RNAi technology is incredible!
