You would think that your doctor or his representative would have told you that. I've been sent home from the medical center several times without getting certain tests because of some instruction I didn't get in advance. "What we have here is a failure to communicate".

Marilyn I don't think they (Dr.s) even knew this until now.
I have hat Fibrotest, Fibroscan and biopsy at different clinics and never been told to fast.
I often wanted to ask but you know how you can get that look like you're from outer space. This explains why in a two year period I have been Dx with Stage 3, then advanced cirrhosis to now early cirrhosis.
This is HUGE news!

I suspect if I fast for a day I would be Stage 1! lol (jk) ..but really sometimes the obvious is overlooked.

Crap! This just makes you wonder about tests and just how accurate they are. It seems the blood work is most accurate of them all.

Here I am thinking I have cirrhosis and all I need is a good dump! lol

RASS this is a new study but I imagine it will set a protocol of fasting before doing sonic assessment of liver "stiffness" to determine possible fibrosis.
See I told you it's all educated guessing. Aside from actually pulling out the liver to have a good look, it's all they really can do!

Valuable info! My lab satellite doesn't do fibrosure but when I get one, will fast.
I'm with you about doubting these tests. I was not happy to be dx'd cirrhosis & insisted upon viewing all abs/tests before complying with some further orders.
My platelets went up to 221K so am I worried about cirrhosis? Heck, NO, & I'm not going to till decompensating & I plan to get treatment & be svr before that happens so there!
Nothing in my recent labs says "cirrhosis" & the usound no tumors, normal size (14.1 I'm tall), portal v & ivc appear normal, so backatcha. My instincts were right on. Just the creatinine & enzymes & RA point to chronic hepatitis.

the FibroTest (the blood test that we use) is actually a calculation of different liver functions and blood serum levels and does not measure the stiffness of the liver. The FibroScan (only approved in Europe and Canada for now I believe) is the way liver stiffness is measured as noted the article it was measured via transient elastography. We are actually eager to get these scans approved because the scan plus the blood test is a great way to assess a liver for cirrhosis without the need for a biopsy.
