Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
As I have stated before, I was diagnosed back in February by my GP. My ALT liver enzymes had been slightly elevated thru 3 different visits and then they jumped slightly but nothing really high. It was on a whim that he tested me.
I went back to him this week on a general visit since he has mainly been monitoring my blood pressure and cholesterol. I got the blood work back yesterday and all my liver enzymes are within normal range.
I assumed they would either be at the same level they had been or higher. I was a little shocked/surprised to find them in normal range.
I figure this to be a good thing but just don't understand how it could be.
I see my liver doctor in two weeks and will have a few questions concerning this.
In the meantime just curious if anyone has any insight.
NOTE: I have not started treatment, I am waiting on the new drugs.

They were only slightly elevated for 3 visits.
At the moment, your liver is happy.
And they removed your "nasty" GB? I wonder if your liver was reacting to a nasty GB?
I just read a few minutes ago that they can fluctuate even with chronic HCV. This, I am sure is what makes diagnosis so hard. Doctors see normal to very low enzymes on bloodwork and never suspect HCV
He said to wait till the best Tx came out cause it would be great to clear the virus...but I can afford to wait....
