There are new treatments now that are easier, shorter in duration and more successful than the older treatments. the first thing you need to find out is your genotype - that determines your treatment plan.

See a hepatologist or infectious disease specialist, not a general gastro doc who treats ulcers and does colonoscopies.

Also, ensure your husband that it is a slow progressing disease and only spread blood to blood. I was married two decades and had three kids and none of them got it from me.

The good news, is you now know you have it. Also many easier gentler more effective treatments today. Continue to practice liver friendly lifestyle & keep your appointments. Its a slow moving virus.

I am so sorry for your loss. It is heart wrenching to watch a loved one suffer with liver cancer. This won't happen to you.

Some good advice here. It is a scary thing, but as has been said, the new treatments are extremely effective. Like others, the first thing I did when I was diagnosed was to have my nearest and dearest tested. My ex wife and my children are all OK, and my current wife is also OK. This after many years of closest contact, so chances are good that yours has not spread. The virus is hard to pass on.
I am sure with help here and where you are, you will find a good hep doc, and get the good advice that you need. With clarity comes a reduction in fear.

thank you all for your advice yes my husband had his blood drawn yesterday and we are waiting for results the clinic called and said I have more bloodwork for tomorrow as yesterday they didn't take enough for the tests needed typical of this small town but someone said a hepotologist or infectious disease dr my doc had said gastro so since you all are living it already I will trust you over her she had me thinking I was going crazy so yeah small town drs are not trustworthy for anything more than general problems thank you to all who have responded I did have ultrasound today on liver and so should know something I would figure by next week

Here also, married 36 years and Hubby is fine - so is everyone else.

This darn disease make everyone shiver.....

Agree with everyone else...DON'T WORRY! Treatments for HCV are FAR more effective and easier to tolerate than treatment from even two years ago. Your hubby WILL beat this if he takes care of himself. :-)
