All I can say is I was married to a man that ha Hep C, cirrhosis and liver cancer and with all the contact we had I am fine. I even pricked myself once with one of his needles after he had injected himself with interfon. We would often share drinks as well. He lost his battle with the disease on Nov. 2 ...and I miss him so.
I really don't think you need to worry.

Kathy, when first diagnosed, I was paranoid, too. Our family shares drinks, food, etc all the time. First thing I did was have my kids tested. They are fine.

Kathy.....honey.....its blood borne..............don't share your toothbrush, nail clippers, razors, etc.....things that might have blood on them.....but your gatorade is fine.............unless of course you wanted the rest of it and he drank it all! Then slap him......LOL

Kathy, no offense, but this is HCV 101.
To all Newbies: The FIRST thing you need to do when you get diagnosed with HCV, is learn everything you can about it ASAP, especially how to protect others we are close to. If I were married, and my doc told me I had HCV, I would not have made it HOME without knowing how to prevent spreading it to others. If you aren't aware that HCV is transmitted blood to blood, please do some additional research, so you don't sweat the small stuff. Best of luck to you.

i've known i have this since about 2006 i just get a little over concerned about others...i know its blood to blood but i still worry. i've read alot about this disease but it doesn't seem to stop me from being overprotective about people around me and they're safety

We cannot assuage the fears of others unless we are confident that we, ourselves, are experts on HCV.
I'm not afraid to tell people, anymore. I tell them on a need to know basis, then I ask them if they are worried about contact with me. Not one person has said yes. I answer their questions, then we move on. I get daily e-mails or calls from those people, asking me how I'm doing and if they can help me.
We have to be experts about our disease. I encourage EVERY
ONE I tell, to get tested for HCV if they had any risk factors in the past. Be brave, confident, and knowledgeable about HCV. It's an opportunity to inform others.

Although I have to say, I am a bit uncomfortable "french kissing" my hubby anymore. I'm hoping I get over it. But for now, the bleeding gums issue is freaky to me. :(

i agree with sarah, this is a prime example of why people are so paranoid about this disease they think they can get it from anywhere!

No offense to you kat I can understand being cautious, but hcv is only BLOOD TO BLOOD. We all need to make sure we tell everyone around us this so they stop getting hcv confused with hbv and other viruses. So no worries, dammit now I want a gatorade! lol

hep C is a transmitted by blood. blood to blood. it's not in saliva.

its odd...as worried as i get even knowing the facts..the people that i have told to get tested just to he on the safe side don't take it seriously...i tell them that some people don't have any idea where they got it but they still got it..and alot of people don't realy have any idea how serious it is..i know i'm not a risk to anyone with normal contact i just worry alot...i posted a while back about running into an old friend of mine that said he had it and he looked at me blankly and said he didn't think it was serious or anything to worry about...most people have no awareness of this disease and how serious it is..soo sad

o and the gatorade thing...i have a cold sore and i guess thats what got me thinking and worrying
