Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.

This link is to a rather technical medical page about Cirrhosis, Varicies, PVHT and Hepatic Encephalopathy.
I thought I would share it as it does have a lot of important information that the lay person can understand.
What I especially liked was the Child Score for the stages of Cirrhosis (1,2,3) and compensating livers.

Hope you can wade through it. I can manage to extract what I am looking for and found some encouraging news for me that the Dr.s didn't share about my cirrhosis so I thought others with time and determination may find a few interesting facts too..hope so!

There is still hope!
My beautiful 45 y/o friend was sent off to die in hospice, given hours to live - about 3years ago. Portal hypertension, bleeding out. Decompensated, edema, ascites, jaundice & went into shut-down.
She got better! She walked out of hospice. She QUIT DRINKING, changed her lifestyle. Has had a couple of brief hospitalizations but is comensated cirrhosis today, lost her ssdi, & works full time.
She has to be careful. Rest. Nutrition. Meditation. Lactolose.
She is alive & amongst the living!

American Association for the Study of Liver Diseases is the name of the organization which IMHO, the most comprehensive website with respect to all types of liver diseases and it's one of my favorite bookmarks to look up some thing that I may not be familiar with or to catch up on new developments in treatments.

One cannot go wrong with this website!!!
