Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Did anyone else see yesterday's front page headline in the Wall St. Journal? Due to a "helpful" campaign from the West to vaccinate poor countries (and re-using syringes in the process), 1/10 of the Egyptian population is infected w/HCV. The plan is to sell them drugs at a fraction of what we pay, while putting "strict controls" in place to make sure the cheaper drugs don't end up back in the Wes.
I guess that is why people in the USA now are having problems getting approved for treatment as they are fighting the drug companies to lower the prices.
If the refuse to pay, I hope the prices get lowered for us also. I just feel bad for the patients waiting for approval, or to get "that bad" that they can be approved for treatment.
My drug costs alone for Sovaldi were $184,000 - which I still can't believe that was the price - no way it had to be so high.

everyone should be able to get it ..
