Tragic for the families that had medical problems and more so for the family that lost a loved one...what's even more tragic is the damn loopholes big pharma and other corporations slip through with tax writeoffs!

I was surprised at the size of the settlements. I assumed that being in a trial came with some sort of waiver so yes sorry about the loss of life but happy that the families are financially compensated.

I also thought there would be some sort of waiver.. Sad for the families and individuals who were effected. My question is will Bristol hit Japan prior to Gilead hitting the West?.

No, you don't give up your rights when you sign a consent form (if that were the case I never would have signed it). The form was surprisingly easy to read. They are written by the review board (I was told). Mine says under the heading of MEDICAL TREATMENT AND COMPENSATION FOR STUDY-RELATED INJURY: You do not give up any legal rights by signing this form. You still have the right to claim through the legal system even if you sign this form....

You would think you'd have to sign something, even if it was an acknowledgement that you got instructions and a list of side effects.

Nope not me. My Hep Dr. at the time just said "Stay off the chat rooms cause they'll just scare you off. If you find it too tough you can just quit" Well LMFAO ..he didn't tell me it could take years to try to recover from it.
I'm happy for those that do recover in time but there are many of us who don't.
I did NOT receive a proper informed consent therefore was not in a position to make an informed decision.
