Never ever heard of that one on these meds.

When we're on tx, we tend to think that everything that "goes wrong" physically is because of the tx meds. Normal. But ... it's usually not the case, not with these super meds. Headaches, yes. Sun reactions from Olysio (which is no longer being prescribed most likely), yes.

I will tell ya that my tx headache NEVER stopped! It started a month into tx, in March, and here I am 8 months later still suffering from it. No way it's a coincidence because I am one who NEVER had headaches (unless I was hung over) until I started my tx (Sova/Oly). Of course, no docs at this point are gonna know or believe any correlation between on-going, like LONG after tx ended, headaches and Sovaldi/Olysio. You are right - they do not know a lot at this point.

However, I followed several people in early-mid 2013 who did the Harvoni (of course called Sofosbuvir/Ledipasvir then) trials - none of them had ANY side effects of any note. So bladder infection - doubtful. Just keep chuggin' your water.

Oh, okay - I get it - you are in Canada? G = Galex....??? whatever, right? Well, still, never heard of bladder infection as a side effect of that. My guess is it's unrelated.

I took SOV/Riba and I had the worst Bladder Infections that lasted forever.....I went threw (no kidding) 5 different antibiotics.....Finally my PCP said "NO MORE anti-biotics until ultrasound kidneys, etc".

It was horrible....My bladder felt like ants were running thru them all the time after the pain was under control.......I had to walk holding my stomach area where the bladder was.

This sounds crazy, I know it.....Finally PCP said it had to be a side effect of my tx and it eventually stopped, but I had anti-anxiety meds.

These meds we take are very powerful and we all get different side effects......Good for you to post....I thought I was losing my mind.

I am one of those women that goes "screaming" with the pain, it hurts so much.....That 'ants running in my bladder" drove me crazy.

Thankfully, i did not suffer that ailment on any treatments. Sounds very unpleasant.

I know there are several antibodies that are contradictory to the sovaldi and olysio. .I'm sure your doc is aware of that and is watching you carefully. You have a UTI? Gosh I remember a few of those in my day...ouchy...but I seriously don't think it's tx related. .I did s/o and my only side that continues to plague me is the PsA that hit me 4 weeks in and has taken up residency.

D-Mannose is a natural cranberry ingredient at Health Food Store...dies in a UTI...NOW...it is 100% of the goodness ingredient of cranberries without the extras....Dr's are now prescribing something just like it...it is kinda expensive...I use to take it for Hep too...someone said it would wash out the virus...nada

I am agreeing with you lovefall that these meds (sovaldi, olysio, even harvoni) are very powerful. I mean they kill the virus within DAYS, permanently it seems - so that's a strong punch. Docs really don't know yet what side effects they can cause - lasting ones perhaps, like my damned headache. There is NO way it's not related to my tx since it started around week 3 or 4 of tx and I hadn't had a headache since 1988 when I quit drinking. By week 3 or 4 of tx the virus was UD and my liver was adjusting, no doubt, to its "new and improved" status - but something kicked off a headache that is still with me NINE MONTHS later. I've had a couple docs, including my liver doc, tell me the HA cannot be related to the Sova/Oly since they're long out of my system. Well, I disagree. And I am sure that they just do not know. Not that it matters if they agree with my theory or not, but what DOES matter is that I need some relief and not in the form of constant use of over the counter NSAIDS! It's gotten to where I wonder if I have a stoopid brain tumor! I'm gonna probably have an MRI done soon - new doc.

So - in thinking this over, the original question about bladder infections - yes, it COULD be related to the tx. Who knows at this point?

Uva Ursi - YES, that's what I used to use many moons ago when one of those raging UTI's would hit me. Water is truly the best of the best remedies. Cranberry juice (natural, no sugar, just juice of the berry - but bitter - eww) is good too, but pure water is the salvation (of this planet and all living beings).

Yes. .water is the ultimate cure..but when that UTI is in full force..ouchy having to hit the loo so often.

I learned that the trick for me was to avoid one in the first place by drinking a lot of water ALL the time. But even so, sometimes an infection would creep in - and oh yeah, I remember how much they hurt! I used to have to have a very painful little procedure done (more than once) to keep them at bay - OUCH (you can imagine what it was - strettttchhhhing the urethra... omg). Finally had surgery to cut away some tissue to make it even more unlikely I'd get them. Long ago and far away, thank god.

oh, best.... yes, it's true they don't know a whole lot about the effects - side effects, long-term, whatever about these meds, but NOTHING can come close to what Interferon did to people, and these new meds CURE THE VIRUS.

Try not to be worried about it. No fear. You want the virus DEAD, and this stuff does that.

Thanks guys. Infection is now under control thanks to anti biotics the dr gave me. And dinking lots of cranberry juice. It just seems to be so much of a coincidence that last time I was on tx and now this time I come down with the bladder infection. Cat, sounds like you are going through one hell of a time with the headaches. So sorry to hear this. To me this is all worth it now that I have tested undetectable.

TO: Bestshot - Mine kept returning....I am not trying to scare you, but besides drinking the 6 bottles of water a day, I also added the purest cranberry juice and craisnets to my diet and it helped. I had to go 24 weeks and endured it and it is gone now.
