Hepatitis C Support Group
Hepatitis C is a blood-borne viral disease which can cause liver inflammation, fibrosis, cirrhosis and liver cancer. The hepatitis C virus (HCV) is spread by blood-to-blood contact with an infected person's blood. Many people with HCV infection have no symptoms and are unaware of the need to seek treatment. Hepatitis C infects an estimated 150-200 million people worldwide.
Jeez, I live in a Bago, I can go right now! I know, be patient.
as far as i knew, i thought i was done with hep. i thought it was like strep, you got it, you got over it , and no big deal.
Wrong. I doctor in the early 90's asked what i was doing about the hep, and i told him it's totally history from the past, and he explained just how wrong i was. Viral load got as high as 22M but between 1969 and the early 90s I never had a VL test
I was always tired. BUT when I mentioned it to an infectious disease doctor he said he bet it wasn't the hep making me tired but sleep apnea. Went for a sleep study and he was right. Got a cpap machine in 2001 and haven't been sleepy since
I think the only pre-treatment symptom I had was a sensitivity to some meds. things like certain allergy meds, or muscle relaxants, which they said would not make you sleepy, put me right to sleep and i believe (no proof) that my liver wasn't handling the drugs as well as a normal liver did
I am now 7 weeks post 40 weeks of Victrelis, and back to normal. UND and hoping for SVR at post 6 months
terminology, UND is the short term goal of being undetectable. The real goal is the VL results 6 months after treatment is over. If you are still UNDIE then, you're given the gold medal award and declared SVR, meaning sustained virological response, meaning CURED. or, in english, the little hcv bastards have not come back even after 6 months of no meds, and if they haven't figured out a way to replicate in the 6 months, they aren't coming back. You are cured and HCV is history.
Definitely party time, Carvel with sprinkles :)
It is possible that your brain and mouth disconnect is from the distraction of the pain and fatigue. It is hard to live in the moment and responds spontaneously, when we have heavy loads bearing down on us. You may find that is something you can work on. I know folks who swear by Mindfulness Meditation to help sharpen the mind and live in the moment.
